National Film Awards Head to Gujarat! See Who Won Big!

The prestigious 72nd National Film Awards ceremony is set to make history this year, relocating from its traditional venue in New Delhi to Kevadia, Gujarat.

This marks a significant shift in the 72-year-old tradition of holding the star-studded event at Vigyan Bhawan.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting confirmed the change, with the grand ceremony scheduled for September 22, where President Droupadi Murmu will present the coveted awards to the recipients. The winners of this year's awards were previously announced on July 18 by the respective jury chairpersons in a press conference held in New Delhi, setting the stage for what promises to be a memorable evening in Gujarat.

Among the top honours, the critically acclaimed film "Article 370" was crowned "Best Feature Film," while its leading lady, Yami Gautam, earned the "Best Actress in a Leading Role" award for her powerful performance. The "Best Actor in a Leading Role" award was shared by two industry stalwarts: Mammootty for his compelling role in "Bramayugam" and Kartik Aaryan for his stellar act in "Chandu Champion." Filmmaker Rajkumar Periasamy was recognised for "Best Direction" for the Tamil-language war drama "Amaran," and actor-turned-director Randeep Hooda made a remarkable debut, winning "Best Debut Director" for "Swatantrya Veer Savarkar." The highly anticipated "Kalki 2898 AD" secured the title of "Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment" and also "Best Production Design." Meanwhile, "Captain Miller" was celebrated as the "Best Feature Film Promoting National, Social and Environmental Values." The supporting categories saw veteran actor Sanjay Mishra take home "Best Supporting Actor" for "Bhakshak." The "Best Supporting Actress" award was jointly presented to Sachana Namidass for "Maharaja" and Ropashree Varkady for "Mithya." Other notable wins include "Pushpa: The Rule Part-02" for "Best Screenplay (Original)" and "Best Costume Design," "Stree 2" for "Best Choreography," and "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3" for "Best Sound Design." "Maharaja" also earned recognition for "Best Action Direction."
