The opening rounds set a high tempo, with the base price of Rs 30 lakh giving way to furious bidding that would soon push prices to eye-watering levels. In a landmark moment, Asha Sobhana of Kerala became the first Malayali cricketer to breach the Rs 1 crore mark, finally being taken by UP Warriorz for Rs 1.1 crore after a seesawing set of bids that even saw Delhi Capitals and RCB jostling for the bowler who helped power their campaigns in prior seasons. The atmosphere was electric as Sobhana recalled watching the moment from Thiruvananthapuram and described the ride as nerve-wracking but incredibly rewarding.
