Maratha Quota Heats Up: Jarange Patil Plans Mumbai March Amid Govt Claims

Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil is set to intensify his agitation, declaring plans for a march to Mumbai with supporters, signalling a continued standoff with the Maharashtra government. This decision comes even as the state government maintains it has largely addressed the community's demands regarding reservation.

Adding momentum to the protest, Abhijit Dipke recently met Jarange Patil, expressing strong support for the Maratha quota agitation.

Dipke notably dared the government to forcibly remove Jarange from the protest site, drawing a parallel to the Delhi Police's action against Sonam Wangchuk, highlighting the activists' resolve.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated on Tuesday that the government has fulfilled most of Patil's demands that would benefit the community. Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, who heads the Cabinet sub-committee on Maratha reservation, echoed this sentiment.

He emphasized that the government has taken "unprecedented" measures, including facilitating Kunbi certificates for eligible Marathas, thereby enabling their inclusion in the Other Backward Class (OBC) category.

Minister Patil further detailed the government's efforts, stating they have implemented reservation benefits and funded various welfare schemes.

He claimed that over 350,000 Maratha youths have already benefited from the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) quota, and a similar number have obtained Kunbi certificates. Despite these assertions from the government, Jarange Patil remains steadfast, indicating he is not waiting for a government delegation but rather for supporters to gather before deciding on the next course of action, which now includes the planned march to the state capital.
