Don stated that it was simply "the right time for a change," signalling a new chapter in his distinguished career. During his time on the programme, which encompassed around 700 episodes, Monty Don became a cherished figure, sharing his profound passion for gardens and horticulture with a vast, knowledgeable audience.

He reflected on this connection, saying,
