Ukraine's Defence Forces say they targeted the Slavneft‑YANOS oil refinery in Russia's Yaroslavl region, about 250 km northeast of Moscow. Explosions were followed by a large fire, and industry sources indicated that the plant's output had been suspended. The strike comes amid ongoing high-intensity clashes and a pattern of attacks on energy facilities as peace talks have stalled.
The refinery, one of Russia's larger processing hubs, has a capacity of about 300,000 barrels per day. Industry sources noted that the CDU-4 processing unit accounts for roughly a third of the plant's production. While the full extent of the damage was still being assessed, the disruption raised concerns about energy supply in the region.
Officials framed the operation as a targeted strike on critical infrastructure, with updates about the incident shared through official military communications. Analysts say that attacks on refineries can have ripple effects on fuel availability and market dynamics, heightening regional tensions as the conflict persists.
