The newly operationalized India-UK trade deal is sparking significant optimism among Indian exporters, with projections indicating substantial growth across key sectors. This landmark agreement is being hailed as a major catalyst for India's export ambitions.
Dr. K. N. Raghavan, CEO of the Seafood Exporters Association of India, has expressed strong confidence that the deal could propel the sector to achieve a remarkable threefold increase in turnover within the next few years. He also highlighted the strategic importance of diversifying export markets, including the European Union, which has played a crucial role in strengthening the industry's resilience and reach.
Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agarwal emphasized the unprecedented speed of the India-UK trade deal's operationalization, noting that trade negotiations are typically complex and time-consuming. Agarwal affirmed that new chapters were incorporated following extensive consultations, ensuring that domestic interests are robustly protected. He also pointed out that the concessions secured for India in this deal outperform those offered to competitors, giving Indian businesses a significant advantage. Furthermore, labor-intensive sectors are expected to be major beneficiaries, and India remains actively engaged with the UK regarding the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
Adding to the positive outlook, Amrit Manwani, Chairman of Sahasra Group, believes the deal will significantly boost India’s electronics sector. He articulated that software, semiconductors, and electronics manufacturers are set to gain considerably from improved market access, strengthened trade ties, and fresh opportunities generated by this bilateral agreement. This signals a promising future for India's high-tech exports.
The consensus from industry leaders and government officials alike points towards a robust period of export-led growth, driven by strategic trade policies and a concerted effort to broaden India's global economic footprint.
