Why No One Reads Your Blog (Yet) – and How to Fix It
Struggling with low engagement on your blog? Learn how to connect with your audience and make your writing resonate.
If you’ve ever hit “publish” and then… crickets, you’re not alone. Literally everyone feels this way at one point or another, especially in the beginning.
You worked hard on your post. You probably even shared it on social media, maybe added a few hashtags. But the views didn’t roll in. No comments. No one shared it. It’s like it never existed. Not even your dad wants to read it.
Here’s the tough truth: writing a blog is not the same as writing for readers.
When I first started blogging, I’d write about whatever was on my mind. My week, my thoughts, my inner monologue. It felt good to express myself - but the posts didn’t resonate. Why? Because I was writing for me, not for them.
Let’s fix that.
1. Ask Yourself: Who Are You Helping?
It sounds simple, but most beginner bloggers skip this. Before you start writing your next post, ask:
- Who will care about this?
- What problem does it solve for them?
- What question does it answer?
- Who do I actually want this to read and what are they expecting?
If you’re not solving a problem, answering a curiosity, or helping someone feel seen, your post is easy to ignore. Like they say, it should educate or entertain, or both. Blogging is personal, but value has to come first.
Imagine someone Googling, “How do I start a podcast with no budget?” and your post is titled “My Random Thoughts on Microphones.” Even if your post is amazing, it’s invisible because it’s not what they’re searching for.
Instead, flip it around: write the post you wish you’d found when you were just starting out. What would you have searched for?

2. Research What Real People Are Asking
If you’re unsure what to write about, don’t guess. Just listen.
Head to:
- Quora or Reddit and search questions related to your niche. What are people struggling with?
- Google’s “People also ask” section
- YouTube comments on popular creators in your space
- Twitter/X replies and threads
You’ll find tons of raw, real concerns - the exact kind of content that people are already looking to read. You just have to provide!
Bonus tip: Keep a running list of common questions. Even better, write posts that link to each other. That creates depth and keeps readers engaged.
3. Let Your Readers Guide You
If you already have a few posts published, Ask your audience what they want more of. Even if it’s just a handful of readers, heck even just one,, their feedback is gold.
- Add a simple line at the end: “What should I write about next?”
- Invite feedback on Thoxt comments
- Post a poll for early readers and ask: “What would’ve helped you even more in this post?”
The goal is to co-create your blog with your audience. You’re not shouting into a void, you’re building a two-way connection.
4. Share Real Experience or Expert Advice
You don’t have to be an expert ; but you do have to be experienced or knowledgable.
Write about something you’ve personally tried. That includes mistakes, frustrations, things you wish you knew earlier. Readers trust what feels real. There's a reason those cheesy makeup vlogs are so popular among teen girls- they apply products on themselves and then give real feedback. If you don’t have personal experience yet, do a little research:
- Reach out to someone via LinkedIn or email
- Use HARO (Help A Reporter Out) to ask experts a quick question
- Read top-rated forum answers and paraphrase insights with proper attribution
- Simply ask your trusted friends (rarely works, they just make fun of you)
This builds trust - and trust is what brings readers back.

5. Use Your Stats to Get Smarter
If you’re writing on Thoxt, you already have tools built in to help you grow.
Before publishing, check your Article Insights:
- What's the analyzed mood and tone? Is it similar to what you intended?
- Is your content skippable?
- Is your title strong?
- Will your article appear on Thoxt homepage and in Google search results?
- Does your article seem spammy or AI-generated?
And after publishing, check your Stats.
- Who is reading your articles (age group, countries, gender)?
- How far are readers scrolling?
- How long are they reading for?
- Are they reacting to your articles?
- Which genres or moods are resonating?
This is invaluable. Maybe people love your titles but drop off after the first paragraph - this happened with my first article (now deleted!) now i know what to work on. Maybe a certain genre gets double the read time (hint. articles with human-written content and images/videos are what people really love) lean into it.
Writing without insights is like trying to navigate with your eyes closed. But once you know how people are experiencing your posts, you can shape your writing to actually connect.
6. Make Sure You Use the Right Platform
There are certain topics that work well on each platform, even though they don't state it like this! Like Substack is best for focusing on growing a newsletter - posts on family, parenting and other lifestyle niches are popular, Medium works well for serious topics life/psychology based or tech blogs, LinkedIn is good for career-focused articles obvy, Thoxt is best for personal posts, movie reviews, news, lifestyle and culture opinions and experimental genres too, especially articles with videos.

TL;DR: Here’s How to Get Read
If no one’s reading your blog yet, it’s not that your writing’s bad. It’s that the focus might be off.
Here’s the fix:
- Write with your reader in mind.
- Solve problems, don’t just share updates.
- Listen to what people are actually asking.
- Share real experiences, not just opinions.
- Use tools like Thoxt’s insights to improve, not just post.
And finally, don’t quit too soon. Most people give up before they ever learn what works. Any skill takes time to master. But if you stay curious, keep asking what your readers need, and adjust your approach, your blog will start finding the people it’s meant for. That's what I'm trying to do and you're already in on my journey!!
Because sometimes, it's not that no one's listening, it's just that you haven't learned how to reach them yet.
