Saturday Night Live kicked off its 52nd season with a hilarious cold open that dove into the unusual relationship between former President Donald Trump and his devoted aide, Natalie Harp. The sketch, which aired amidst a nor'easter hammering the East Coast, saw Ashley Padilla embodying Harp's alarmingly intense loyalty.
The episode opened with James Austin Johnson's Donald Trump in a Manhattan meeting with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, played by Ramy Youssef.
Trump, bewildered by someone braving the harsh weather to see him, was surprised by the sudden arrival of Harp.
With wet hair and no jacket, a giggling Harp explained she wasn't in New York but had "ran here from D.C., Weapons-style" because she thought Trump "needed anything." She even broke into a Beyoncé song, emphasizing her unwavering focus on him.
Harp, who served as Trump's executive assistant since his first day back in office, is known for managing his social media and, as his "human printer," feeding him positive stories. The sketch drew inspiration from real-life reports, including letters she sent Trump in 2023 where she called him her "Guardian and Protector in this Life" and declared, "You are all that matters to me." She was also famously seen running after his golf cart during an outing.
Despite her attempts to convince everyone she was "totally normal," Harp's true devotion became clear when she approached Mayor Mamdani.
Leaning in, she whispered a chilling warning: "If you hurt him, I will end you." The threat left even Johnson's Trump momentarily speechless, managing only a simple "Wow." The cold open successfully satirized the deeply unsettling, yet strangely comedic, aspects of Harp's public persona and her relationship with the former president, providing a memorable start to SNL's new season.
