Jackson explained that the creation story was almost accidental. She was approached by a production company about a different project, and, initially, she thought, ‘This is the worst thing I ever heard in my life.’ But she didn’t give up. Drawing on her experience with The Rookies, she proposed a new concept: three young women who attend the police academy, become friends, and work their way up to plainclothes detectives. The idea flipped the premise of a crime show into a bold, female-led adventure.
The name itself came from a spark of collaboration. Aaron Spelling had suggested The Alley Cats, but Jackson suggested Charlie’s Angels, a title she says she immediately felt would work. “We started shooting the pilot, and I never doubted. I don’t know why, but I never doubted that it was going to be a big hit. It was unique.” The trio’s chemistry, she notes, was truly special—and the kind of bond that keeps fans talking 50 years later.
The reunion also touched on the show’s enduring legacy, including the late Farrah Fawcett, who died in 2009 at the age of 62.
