India’s Q2 GDP rises 8.2%, fastest in six quarters, Modi hails reforms
India posts 8.2% GDP growth in Q2 FY2025-26, the strongest in six quarters, with PM Modi crediting reforms and pro-growth policies.
India's economy grew 8.2% in the July-September quarter, the fastest in six quarters, underscoring a buoyant demand from both industry and services. The reading beat expectations and followed 7.8% in Q1 FY2025-26 and 5.6% a year earlier. Prime Minister Modi praised the numbers, calling them a vindication of the government's pro-growth policies and reforms.
Real GDP rose 8.2% in Q2, while nominal GDP climbed 8.7%. Private final consumption expenditure expanded by about 7.9%, and the secondary and tertiary sectors were the main engines, with manufacturing up around 9% and services near double digits. Construction and financial, real estate and professional services also supported the gains.
Finance ministry officials emphasised sustained momentum and a commitment to reforms and fiscal consolidation as a path to durable growth.
Analysts noted that the quarterly surge could partly reflect a favourable base and some one-off drivers, and they cautioned that keeping the pace will require continued policy support and global demand recovery.
Overall, the data reinforce India's status as the world's fastest-growing major economy and add to the government's narrative that reforms are paying off for ordinary households.
