London Hit by Thunderstorms: Fresh Warnings Issued Across Capital
London is under fresh thunderstorm warnings today with heavy rain, lightning, and potential flooding across the capital. Stay safe and informed as unsettled weather continues throughout the day and into the weekend.
London residents are waking up to another day of unsettled weather as fresh thunderstorm warnings sweep across the capital. The Met Office has issued a yellow storm warning, effective from 2 am to 8 am on Thursday, covering all of Greater London and significant parts of the east of England.
A second warning is also in place from 5 am to 10 pm, impacting areas of north London, the West and East Midlands, the North West of England, and the entire nation of Wales.
The warnings highlight a "small risk of flooding and disruption" due to the thunderstorms, alongside a potential for power cuts.
Forecasters have indicated that heavy downpours are expected to batter London for much of Thursday morning.
Some parts of the city could see intense rainfall, with 20 to 30mm falling in less than an hour.
Adding to the concerns, lightning and hail, potentially 1-2cm in size, are also possible.
BBC Weather predictions suggest persistent thundery showers throughout Thursday morning, with a specific window for thunder and lightning between 11 am and 1 pm. There's also a chance of further thunderstorms later in the afternoon, between 3 pm and 7 pm, before a drizzly and wet night with lighter rain showers sets in.
Looking ahead, Friday offers a brief respite, promising drier and clearer conditions with ample sunny intervals.
However, the reprieve will be short-lived. Thunderstorms are anticipated to make a comeback over the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend, with potential storms hitting the capital on both Saturday and Sunday, reminding everyone to stay prepared and keep an eye on the latest weather updates.
