Bengaluru Tragedy: Man jumps in front of metro, dies at Kengeri station
A 38-year-old man dies after jumping in front of a moving metro at Bengaluru's Kengeri station; Purple Line disrupted briefly, services restored later.
A 38-year-old man, Shantagoud Policepatil, died after jumping in front of a moving metro at Bengaluru's Kengeri station on Friday morning, around 8:15 am. Eyewitnesses said he timed his jump with the approaching train, and the train collided with him. The paramedical team arrived quickly and cleared the body from the track.
The incident briefly disrupted Purple Line services, with trains suspended beyond Mysore Road up to Challaghatta. Officials said services were fully restored by 09:40 hours, and train operations across the Purple Line are now running as scheduled.
Police have not yet established the motive for the act, and investigators say a full probe is underway. The case adds to a string of troubling events in the city, including a prior suicide at an under-construction site in Nallurhalli that raised concerns about mental health and safety.
