Bengaluru man booked for social media abuse of police and mid-air misconduct

A 32-year-old man, Utkarsh Gautam, was booked by Kempegowda International Airport police after alleged abusive and misleading posts about Bengaluru City Police on social media and for misbehaviour on a flight. The case came to light on March 23 during routine social media monitoring. Investigators found a Twitter/X account @Utkarshgautam96 that had posted abusive remarks targeting Bengaluru City Police and included a line asking for the arrest of BlrCityPolice. He also allegedly posted on Instagram derogatory remarks about the police and claimed illegal detention at the airport police station.

Earlier on March 22, Indigo Airlines staff filed a complaint about his behaviour aboard flight 6E373 from Jaipur to Bengaluru. He allegedly attempted to open the aircraft’s rear safety door mid-air and used abusive language toward cabin crew when questioned.

Based on the complaints, a case was registered under sections 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He was detained at the airport police station in Bengaluru and later handed over to the appropriate jurisdictional police for further action. After preliminary questioning and background checks, police registered a non-cognisable case.

Police stressed that social media posts that spread false information can aggravate security concerns and normalise harassment, adding that authorities will continue to monitor online activity and take appropriate legal action against offenders.
