Delhi Red Fort car blast: Detentions widen as investigators press ahead

A car explosion near Delhi's Red Fort on the evening of November 10 left 13 people dead and many more injured, jolting the capital and prompting a nationwide security response. Investigators say the blast is being treated as part of a larger network, with teams working to reconstruct how the attack was planned and executed.

In a widening net, authorities detained five more people linked to the alleged module behind the blast. Among them are two doctors from Kashmir-origin backgrounds—Dr Mohammad Arif Mir, a cardiologist from Kanpur, and Dr Farukh, a gynecologist from Hapur—who were picked up in Uttar Pradesh and later handed over to central agencies for interrogation. Their connections to Dr Shaheen Shahid, a figure previously connected to the case, are being scrutinized as investigators try to determine the extent and nature of the links.

As the investigation deepens, security forces demolished the Pulwama residence of Umar Nabi, identified by investigators as a prime driver of the incident, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the network. A silver Maruti Brezza seized in the probe and several other vehicles—along with material linked to the attack—are being examined to understand the logistics and transport chain used to execute the blast. Investigators have indicated that the module behind the Delhi attack is alleged to be connected to groups with roots in Kashmir, and that the operation may have involved foreign guidance.

Officials have stressed that the case will be pursued to its logical conclusion, with the government pledging strict punishment for those involved. The Disaster of the Delhi blast has underscored the enduring threat of terrorism and the need for continued vigilance and cross‑jurisdictional cooperation to prevent further violence.
