Faridabad Police Inspector Dies Saving Others in Surajkund Swing Collapse
An inspector died while rescuing people during a Surajkund swing collapse in Faridabad; authorities vow tribute and ₹1 crore compensation for the family.
Surajkund witnessed a terrifying incident when a swing ride collapsed, trapping riders and prompting a rapid response from police and rescuers. Police moved quickly to arrest the ride operator and staff as part of the investigation into how the structure failed and who was responsible.
Inspector Jagdish Prasad, 58, of the Haryana Armed Police, died while attempting to rescue those trapped. He joined the force in 1989 and was due to retire in March after 36 years of service. His body was handed over to his family after a post-mortem.
The officer had previously been awarded the Police Medal in 2020. The state’s police chief announced a compensation of ₹1 crore for his family and a government job for one family member, honoring him as a martyr.
The incident has sparked questions about safety at local amusements and a push for greater accountability and improvements to prevent future tragedies.
