A speeding Mercedes struck three pedestrians near Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj, Delhi; one man died and two others were injured as police detain the driver.
A speeding Mercedes G63 crashed into a roadside pole after hitting three pedestrians near the Ambience Mall in Delhi's Vasant Kunj in the early hours of Sunday. Police said one man died at the hospital and two others were injured.
The deceased has been identified as Rohit Singh, 23, a native of Chamoli in Uttarakhand. Two friends, aged 23 and 35, were injured and admitted to hospital. All three worked at a restaurant inside the mall complex.
The driver, 29-year-old Shivam of Karol Bagh, Delhi, was arrested after the crash. He had allegedly borrowed his friend's car to attend a wedding.
Investigators said the car reportedly lost balance due to a diversion and struck a pole at an auto stand where the victims were waiting for an autorickshaw. The crash happened around 2:33 am, after which the Mercedes was seized.
Police stated the driver is in custody and legal action is being taken. The driver was returning home with his wife and elder brother after attending a wedding.
The investigation is ongoing, with officials scrutinizing the diversion, vehicle condition, and other factors to determine the exact sequence of events.
