Two Teens Die After Car Plunges From Bridge Onto M1 Near Lutterworth
Two teenagers die after a blue car falls from a bridge onto the M1 and hits a minibus; four others are injured and hospitalized.
Two teenagers have died after the blue car they were travelling in left a road bridge and crashed into a minibus on the M1 in Leicestershire. The incident happened around 1.33pm on Friday when the car, travelling along Gilmorton Lane toward Lutterworth, left the carriageway and plunged onto the southbound M1 near junction 20, colliding with a white Fiat Ducato.
Four people in the minibus were taken to hospital, including the driver and three women. The driver has since been discharged, while the women remain in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Leicestershire Police urged anyone who was on Gilmorton Lane or on the M1 near junction 20 around 1.30pm to contact them, including dashcam footage or sightings of either vehicle prior to the collision.
Emergency services — Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service — attended the scene. The highway was closed for some time to deal with the crash and traffic was disrupted as responders worked.
Investigators will review dashcam footage and collect witness statements to determine how the blue car ended up off the road and onto the bridge, and whether any additional factors contributed to the collision.
