In a significant move for government employees in the capital, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered the withdrawal of earlier work-from-home (WFH) measures and staggered office timings. This decision comes as the geopolitical situation, particularly in the Middle East, is reported to have normalized, allowing for a return to routine in government offices.
The initial measures, introduced in May, were part of a broader austerity and energy conservation push. They included mandatory WFH for government employees on Wednesdays and Saturdays, a 'Metro Monday' initiative encouraging public transport use by ministers and senior officials, and a one-year freeze on official foreign visits. Additionally, there was a six-month ban on purchasing new petrol, diesel, CNG, or hybrid vehicles for the Delhi government, and citizens were urged to observe a weekly 'No Vehicle Day'.
Announcing the decision, the Chief Minister's Office stated that with the geopolitical situation practically normalized, the WFH arrangement for Wednesdays and Saturdays would be withdrawn. The new order will see GNCTD offices functioning from 10 am to 6:30 pm, while the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will maintain its existing timings of 8:30 am to 5 pm. This rollback marks a return to pre-May operational standards, signaling a collective sigh of relief for many government staff.
