A 29-year-old software professional was killed by her former husband inside a Hyderabad home; authorities say the case involves a domestic violence history and a dramatic confrontation.
A 29-year-old software professional was killed inside her Hyderabad home on Wednesday, with investigators linking the crime to a lingering domestic violence dispute with her ex-husband. The accused reportedly forcefully entered the residence, locked the room where the victim had taken shelter, and stabbed her repeatedly in the head. He is also said to have struck her with a flower pot, killing her instantly. The victim’s mother-in-law was present in the verandah during the attack. The victim’s current husband told police that she was three months pregnant, though officials said the confirmation will come after a post-mortem examination. After the assault, the accused allegedly poured petrol inside the room and locked himself in the washroom, threatening to set the house on fire with a lighter he carried. Police conducted negotiations and he eventually surrendered, being taken into custody.
The couple had married in 2022 and obtained a mutual divorce in 2024. The woman remarried in April 2025. Authorities said the accused harboured resentment toward his former wife after she filed a domestic violence case against him. Reports indicate the accused had moved to Canada after the marriage, but differences arose, prompting her return to India and a DV complaint in Maharashtra before she joined him there. He returned to India in March 2025 following his mother’s death, and a Look-Out Circular was issued due to the pending case. The investigation is ongoing as police piece together the sequence of events and verify pregnancy details through the post-mortem.
