It is absolutely appalling how we neglect the foundational safety of our children in anganwadis. How can 51 centers in a district like Ernakulam still be operating without basic fitness certificates months into the academic year? Bureaucratic excuses like assistant engineer transfers are simply unacceptable when lives are at stake.

We recently heard about a cobra being found inside an almirah because of a broken window pane! It's about the literal survival of toddlers. When we have 600 centers without their own buildings, forced into cramped, unsafe rented spaces because of unrealistic rent caps, we are failing the next generation.

If we can’t provide a net on a window or clear a thicket, what are we doing? Our children deserve better than this.

While officials claim the delay is just administrative because of assistant engineer transfers, the recent incident of a cobra found inside an almirah at Karumaloor proves that safety can't be taken for granted.

Many of these centers are in rented buildings with missing window panes or surrounded by thickets. How can we fix a uniform rent for both Kochi city and rural areas? It’s impossible to find safe buildings in urban spots at low rates.
