Rajasthan Man Arrested in TN CM Vijay Deepfake Scam! 🚨

Chennai, India, In a significant breakthrough, Tamil Nadu’s CB-CID police have arrested a man from Rajasthan for allegedly creating and circulating sophisticated deepfake videos of Chief Minister Vijay. These AI-generated videos, featuring the CM with Hindi audio, were reportedly used to cheat individuals across various states, particularly Madhya Pradesh.

The investigation, led by Tamil Nadu Police chief Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, revealed that cases were registered last month after these fraudulent videos surfaced on Facebook and other social media platforms.

The accused was apprehended after an advanced technical analysis by the CB-CID, overcoming significant challenges in tracing the source.

According to initial findings, the deepfake videos instructed the general public to contact a WhatsApp number for financial assistance, effectively using the Chief Minister's fabricated image to perpetrate a scam. Police are probing whether the arrested individual acted alone or as part of a larger criminal network, highlighting the growing threat of AI-powered deception.

Legal action has been initiated under the newly introduced Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. Specifically, sections 204 (impersonating a public servant), 318 (2) (cheating), and 319 (2) (cheating as a public servant) of the BNS have been cited.

The CB-CID also requested Facebook to swiftly remove the deceptive content.

This incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced digital literacy and stricter regulations to combat the misuse of AI technologies for fraudulent activities.
