Special Intensive Revision closes with a larger final roll in Ernakulam as many previously excluded voters are restored ahead of the polls.
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Ernakulam has concluded with a notable update to the final electoral roll. While the draft published on December 23, 2025 listed 23,30,643 voters, the list under revision now stands at 24,62,641, according to sources close to the process. This means more than one lakh voters who were previously excluded during enumeration—mostly in the ASD group of absentees, deceased, and shifted voters—could be back on the registry. The final roll reflects voters who were verified for identity details and those who reapplied using Form 6 (new voters) and Form 6A (voters residing abroad). Of roughly 1.5 lakh added to the draft list, about 27,000 are fresh voters aged 18 or 19, while the remainder are voters who were either omitted in enumeration or permitted to file fresh applications for reinstatement. All deletions in the ASD list were made only after thorough verification to ensure eligible voters are not left out.
As the ASD category includes many who are deceased or have shifted to other constituencies, officials emphasized that the process was designed to correct errors while safeguarding the franchise for eligible residents. The district administration indicated that nearly all possible checks were carried out to prevent exclusions, with the final list intended to be comprehensive and accurate before publication.
Kerala’s final electoral roll will be formally published on February 21. The Election Commission of India list is expected to be about 16.54 lakh voters smaller than the list used for local body elections in December 2025, reflecting adjustments through verification and reinstatement. The changes ahead of the polls are likely to influence campaign strategies and voter outreach, as more eligible residents see their names appear in the official register.
