AOC Accuses Robert Kraft of Censoring Macklemore Over Palestine Comments

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has openly criticized New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, alleging he orchestrated a campaign to censor rapper Macklemore. This accusation comes after Macklemore was removed from Ed Sheeran's tour following his on-stage comments supporting Palestinians amid the conflict in Gaza.

Ocasio-Cortez specifically pointed to Kraft, stating,

It's not just what has happened with the act and not just in removing Macklemore from the lineup, but when you see what Robert Kraft did to line up all of the stadiums to censor speech in that one specific way, it's become clear that this is not just about one music artist or two music artists, but this is about how just a handful of stadium owners and the elite can prevent an entire massive issue, in this case, the genocide in Gaza.

She emphasized that while everyone involved plays a role, Kraft and "the actual people who are kind of twisting things here" should be the focus, warning of a dangerous precedent.

The controversy began when Macklemore joined Sheeran's Loop Tour in early September for two shows at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. During his performance, he voiced support for a "Free Palestine," expressed solidarity with people in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, displayed images of war devastation, and performed his protest song "Hind's Hall." Following these performances, Macklemore faced swift backlash, with pro-Israel groups launching petitions demanding his removal from the tour.

Macklemore later claimed that Kraft pressured Sheeran, telling him he would not be allowed to perform at Gillette Stadium, which is owned by the Kraft Group, if Macklemore remained on the lineup. He further alleged that Kraft "rallied some of the other stadium owners" to issue a collective ultimatum to Sheeran.

Robert Kraft confirmed his decision to bar Macklemore from performing at Gillette Stadium, citing the rapper's

material shared from the stage during Ed Sheeran's shows in New Jersey, and a broader history of antisemitic rhetoric and imagery.

However, Kraft did not address Macklemore's specific claim about rallying other stadium owners to join a pressure campaign against the artist. In solidarity with Macklemore, all other artists supporting Sheeran on the tour, including Finneas, Lukas Graham, and Aaron Rowe, subsequently withdrew from the trek.
