The New Delhi AI Impact Summit concluded with the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration on AI Impact, and 70 countries have already signed, with expectations that the number will cross 80 by Saturday when the final declaration is released. The Summit’s expo was extended by a day thanks to an overwhelming public response, drawing a footfall of more than five lakh visitors across five days of exhibitions and sessions. The scale of attendance underscored broad interest in how AI should be developed and governed going forward.
IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw hailed the summit as a grand success, noting that there was broad consensus on the declaration and that all major countries—“people who matter in AI”—had signed on. He emphasized that the declaration is largely political and symbolic rather than legally binding, but it serves as a guiding framework for future policy and regulatory roadmaps in AI governance and industry adoption.
Signatories include the United States, United Kingdom, China, France, Israel, Canada, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and the European Union, with officials indicating the US has signed the Delhi declaration. This marks a contrast with past summits, such as Paris, where key players did not sign, reflecting evolving global attitudes toward AI governance and collaboration.
The summit featured India’s MANAV AI concept—humans, by humans, and for humans—receiving strong acceptance as a guiding philosophy for ethical and inclusive AI development. The event’s framing around “AI for All” highlights a push to balance innovation with safeguards, national security considerations, and inclusive access to AI benefits.
Overall, government officials said commitments to infrastructure and technology investments surpassed $400 billion, signaling a coordinated push to scale AI capabilities across economies. The New Delhi Declaration is positioned as a roadmap for future cooperation, policy alignment, and shared standards among nations seeking to harness AI’s potential while mitigating risks.
