Kacey Musgraves unleashes Middle of Nowhere, a 13-track collection blending country with bluegrass, pop, Norteño and Zydeco—featuring Willie Nelson and more.
Kacey Musgraves has released her seventh studio album, Middle of Nowhere, a 13-track collection produced by Musgraves alongside Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk. It features a star-studded lineup including Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert, Billy Strings, and Gregory Alan Isakov, with a special rodeo clown-colored vinyl edition available for fans.
Musgraves drew inspiration from a sign outside her hometown of Golden, Texas: “Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere.” The album is described as a sonic love letter to the borders of country, weaving open space and traditional western elements with influences from bluegrass, pop, Norteño, and Zydeco.
In a show of solidarity, she’ll perform a trio of shows at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas from May 3rd to May 5th, alongside a trio of mariachi musician brothers who were previously detained by ICE.
During an Apple Music interview, Musgraves said the project is different from her usual approach: she started writing amid a breakup and spent more time alone, reevaluating her personal life and her place in music. That period yielded a fresh perspective on her work, career, and country music at large, and she acknowledged that it could be tempting to frame Middle of Nowhere as a “return”—but the album pushes past labels and into broader sonic territory.
The release invites fans to stream the new material now, while live performances and longtime collaborations with Tashian and Fitchuk anchor the album’s ambitious, genre-spanning sound.
