Syd Announces New Album 'Beard' and Drops Smooth New Single 'Callin'

Syd, the iconic voice from The Internet and a veteran of the Odd Future collective, has officially announced her return to the spotlight. Her third solo album, titled Beard, is set to drop on July 17th through Free Lunch/Warner Records. This marks her first full-length project in four years, following 2022's Broken Hearts Club and her 2017 debut, Fin.

To give fans a taste of what is coming, Syd shared the lead single “Callin’,” which features Blu June. The track is a smooth and smoky R&B piece that dives into the relatable frustrations of unrequited love within modern relationships. It sets a soulful tone for the upcoming record, showcasing the evolution of Syd's signature sound.

The production credits for Beard are packed with heavy hitters. Syd co-produced the album herself, but she also brought in an impressive roster of collaborators including Raphael Saadiq, Big Sean, Rodney Jerkins, James Fauntleroy, Van Hunt, and Jordan Ward. With such a diverse range of talent involved, the album promises to be a rich sonic experience.

Beyond the music, the album’s title holds a deeply personal meaning for Syd. She revealed that Beard was inspired by the peach fuzz on her upper lip, something that used to make her feel insecure. By naming the album after it, she is reclaiming her confidence and embracing her identity. “It allowed me to take my confidence into my own hands, and own everything that I am,” Syd explained, adding that she views herself as an “anomaly” and an outlier in the industry.

Fans in the UK have even more to look forward to, as Syd has also confirmed a series of tour dates to coincide with the album release. For those who have been waiting since her last project, July 17th can't come soon enough.
