Sensex Rebounds as IT Selloff Eases, Nifty Near 25,750 Again
Markets swing from a weak start to gains as IT weakness weighs in, but broad upside helps the Sensex close higher and Nifty stays around 25,776.
The Indian stock market opened on a cautious note, with the Sensex slipping over 150 points and the Nifty trading below the 25,750 mark as global cues remained mixed. The Sensex hovered near 83,600 while the Nifty wavered just under the 25,750 level.
As the session progressed, sentiment improved and the indices staged a strong reversal. The Sensex climbed to 83,819.32, up 80.19 points, while the Nifty touched 25,782.45, higher by 54.90 points, signaling renewed buying interest across several sectors.
Sectoral action showed a mixed picture. The IT index came under pressure, dragged down by global AI-related concerns, tumbling about 5.5% to 35,109.51. In contrast, the Oil & Gas index rose around 2.37%, and the Utilities sector advanced about 2.72%, highlighting a broadening rally beyond the tech-heavy names.
In the closing hours of volatile trading, the benchmarks finished near session highs. The Sensex settled at 83,817.69, up 78.56 points, while the Nifty closed at 25,776.00, up 48.45 points. Market breadth remained positive with a larger number of stocks advancing than declining, suggesting underlying buying interest despite IT pressure.
