Manchester's own rock sensation, Westside Cowboy, is turning heads with their latest single, "Pin Up Boys," offering a tantalizing glimpse into their upcoming debut album, "It Goes On." Set to drop in August via Island Records, the album is already generating significant buzz, with "Pin Up Boys" following the acclaimed lead single, "Kick Stones (The Boys)."
"Pin Up Boys" has rapidly become a live fan favorite, known for its raw energy and aggressive edge. Singer Reuben Haycocks noted how the track evolved on stage, becoming "heavier and more aggro" with each performance, perfectly mirroring its lyrical themes of battling for self-control. This live intensity heavily influenced the recording process, with the band aiming to capture the authentic, untamed spirit of their stage show.
The creation of "Pin Up Boys" itself is a testament to the band's inventive spirit. Written over a year and a half ago, it began with just an acoustic guitar, a drum machine sample pad, and screwdrivers used as drumsticks. Having been the longest-serving song on the album and the most frequently played live, it holds a special place in the band's heart.
Accompanying the single is a captivating music video, directed by SNL UK’s Jack Shep. The visual narrative follows a fixed, "malevolent spotlight" relentlessly pursuing a hero, portrayed by the band's friend, Will. As the hero desperately tries to escape its gaze, he eventually breaks free, splitting into a new spotlight that reveals a different version of the band, culminating in a dramatic "buckle and shatter." This dynamic video perfectly complements the song's intense and evolving nature.
