Legendary guitarist Johnny Marr announces his highly anticipated fifth solo album, "The Age Of Everything," and drops the vibrant new single "Spin." Get ready for a deep dive into modern life and massive live shows!
Iconic musician Johnny Marr, celebrated for his groundbreaking work with The Smiths and influential solo career, is set to captivate fans once again with his fifth studio album, “The Age Of Everything.” This highly anticipated release marks Marr’s first collection of new original material since 2022’s “Fever Dreams Pts 1-4” and follows his recent collaborations, including an appearance on Gorillaz's ninth record.
The album's lead single, “Spin,” offers the first tantalizing glimpse into Marr’s latest musical journey. Accompanied by a visually striking music video conceptualised by Marr himself and filmed in his beloved Manchester, “Spin” sets the tone for an album that promises both introspection and a forward-looking perspective.
“The Age Of Everything” is described by Marr as his most cathartic record to date. He explains the album’s powerful title, stating, “The title came to me early in the process and became an inescapable idea. It seemed to sum up the way I think a lot of people are feeling. It’s all encompassing, but it's not necessarily a negative statement. There’s a sense of overwhelm in the culture brought about by technology, but looking at it with a different light, there could also be a sense of possibility.” The ten tracks explore themes of good and bad while resolutely holding onto the promise of the future, offering a resonant commentary on contemporary life.
The creative journey for the album spanned continents, with tracks written in London, developed live during a tour across the East Coast of North America, and ultimately recorded in Manchester. This global influence is expected to infuse the album with a diverse and rich soundscape.
To celebrate the new release, Marr is gearing up for his biggest live performances to date. Fans can look forward to a special homecoming show at Manchester’s Castlefield Bowl on July 9, followed by a monumental headline performance at London’s Wembley Arena on October 24. Beyond the UK, Marr will also embark on a European tour and make appearances at major festivals, including Down The Rabbit Hole in the Netherlands and OFF Festival in Poland.
