The Michael Jackson biopic is shaping up as a global box office contender, with a target to surpass $220 million worldwide even as momentum wobbles in key markets. The film opened with strong Friday numbers, then cooled over the weekend.
In North America, the film opened to $39.29 million on Friday, followed by $32.46 million and $25.45 million on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Its domestic total stands at $97.20 million. With a budget of $155 million, the Jaafar Jackson-led biopic also features Nia Long, KeiLyn Durrel Jones, Laura Harrier, Jessica Sula, Mike Myers, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo.
Industry observers note that the response has been tepid due to reviews, impacting daily earnings and contributing to a slower pace at theaters in the region. Still, the global box office picture remains resilient as audiences continue to flock worldwide.
In India, the film earned Rs 2.25 crore on Monday, taking its total domestic India box office to Rs 18.75 crore. This marked a 61.54% dip from Sunday’s Rs 5.85 crore. The day’s occupancy stood at 19.19%, with morning shows at 11.11% and gradually rising through the day to the evening and night screenings.
Despite the slowdown in individual markets, the film remains a global draw and is on track to cross $220 million worldwide, buoyed by strong international interest and a notable cast that includes Jaafar Jackson in the titular role.
