It's finally spring, which means it is officially Galaxy Season! Since the Earth is pointing away from the dusty plane of the Milky Way right now, we get an unobstructed view straight into deep space. If you look up at constellations like Leo and Virgo around midnight, you're literally looking right at our nearest galaxy clusters! I just got my telescope set up for tonight. Just remember, these galaxies are super faint and far away, so you absolutely need perfectly dark conditions, definitely plan around the moon phases and try to avoid a full or large moon. You'll also need a decent telescope or some large binoculars to actually spot them, but trust me, it is incredibly rewarding to finally see and photograph them in person.
