It is absolutely unacceptable that over 50 anganwadis in Ernakulam are still operating without mandatory fitness certificates months after the academic year began. While officials conveniently blame administrative delays and assistant engineer transfers, we are essentially gambling with the lives of our youngest children. Just recently, a cobra was found inside an almirah in a Karumaloor anganwadi! It’s about broken window panes, missing nets on air holes, and buildings surrounded by hazardous thickets. Many centers are forced into dilapidated rented spaces because the fixed government rent is too low for urban areas like Kochi. We need to prioritize child safety over bureaucracy. Our children deserve secure, well-maintained spaces, not makeshift centers where snakes can crawl in through missing windows.
