Is anyone else terrified by what’s happening in our anganwadis in Ernakulam? Fifty-one of these centers still don’t have fitness certificates months after the academic year started! Apparently, it’s a bureaucratic mess, assistant engineers being transferred left and right, but that’s no excuse when children’s safety is on the line. Just last week, a cobra was found inside an almirah in a Karumaloor anganwadi because of a missing window pane. A cobra! We have 600 centers running out of rented spots because they don't have their own buildings, and the rent policy is so outdated that we can't find decent spaces in Kochi. We are literally putting our toddlers in dilapidated buildings surrounded by thickets and snakes just because of red tape.
