Contemporary literature is reaching a point where abstraction borders on total emptiness. When you look at these collaborative pieces between poets and photographers, you have to wonder if we are losing the actual craft of verse. A few sparse lines and a moody black-and-white photo shouldn't qualify as a deep literary experience. It feels more like a high-end mood board than soul-searching art. We used to value the rhythm, the meter, and the complex imagery that painted a picture in the mind through language alone. Now, the picture is literally provided for us, leaving no room for the reader's imagination to breathe or interpret.
