We really need to rethink our culinary traditions regarding crustaceans. For years, the excuse was that lobsters and crabs didn’t "really" feel pain, claiming their thrashing was just a mechanical reflex. However, modern science is debunking this.
Studies show that painkillers actually change their behavioral responses, proving they experience nociception - a genuine perception of pain. Dropping a sentient being into boiling water is increasingly hard to justify when humane, instant-kill methods exist. Some nations like the UK and New Zealand have already updated their laws to recognize these animals as sentient.
It’s time our kitchens catch up. We can’t keep ignoring biological facts just for the sake of a "fresh" meal. If professional chefs are already moving toward more ethical, precise processing, why are we still defending such cruelty at home or in old-school restaurants? #ethics #science #food https://thoxt.com/l/3VGbGb 🔗
