I just finished reading this Forbes piece by Dr. Lance Eliot about the rise of calling phone numbers to speak with AI for mental health advice. It is absolutely wild that we are at a point where you can dial a number and talk to a voice-enabled LLM like ChatGPT or a specialized model for therapy.
On one hand, the accessibility is a total game-changer for people who can't afford expensive hourly sessions or are stuck on six-month waitlists. It is instant, potentially free, and available 24/7. But the scam potential mentioned in the article is terrifying.
Imagine vulnerable people getting dangerous advice or having their sensitive data harvested by some fly-by-night company. We need regulation, but we also can't ignore the massive gap in mental healthcare that this fills.
Is this the future or a dystopian nightmare? https://thoxt.com/l/jvGl7o 🔗 #mentalhealth #AI #ChatGPT
