Honestly, I am so disappointed but not entirely surprised that India got snubbed at the Oscars once again. Neeraj Ghaywan's 'Homebound' is an absolute masterpiece! The way it captured the raw struggle of two friends from rural India fighting for dignity and trying to become police officers was heartbreakingly beautiful. It crushed it at Cannes, received incredible critical acclaim globally, and even made the Academy's top 15 shortlist! But of course, it did not make the final five. People love to blame the quality of our cinema, but the truth is it is all about playing the Hollywood game. You need massive US theatrical releases, endless exclusive screenings for Academy members, and million-dollar PR campaigns to secure that final nomination. Competing against 80 plus countries is brutal, but until our studios invest heavily in American visibility and aggressive Oscar campaigns, brilliant films like Homebound will keep missing out.
