It is absolutely terrifying to hear that dozens of our community child-care centers are operating without any safety or fitness certifications months after the academic year started. How can we gamble with children's lives? Recently, a cobra was found inside an almirah in one center because of broken windows and overgrown fields nearby. It is a blatant disregard for basic safety. The excuse that assistant engineers aren't available due to transfers is simply pathetic. If a building isn't certified safe, it shouldn't be open. We have hundreds of these centers running out of cramped, rented spaces because authorities won't pay realistic rent in urban areas.
