Charli XCX has delighted fans by officially releasing an extended version of her latest album, 'Music, Fashion, Film (B-Sides Edition)', on streaming platforms this past Sunday. This digital drop includes three highly-anticipated additional tracks: 'I Keep On Thinking Bout You Every Single Day and Night,' 'Playboy Bunny,' and 'If You Take the Music Then What Has She Got?'
These tracks were not entirely new to dedicated fans, as they had previously been shared on Charli's @b.sides alt-account on Instagram. They also appeared as physical b-sides on limited-edition 7-inch singles for her tracks "Rock Music," "SS26," and "Camera," and were part of the 'Music, Fashion, Film' physical box set. The digital availability marks a significant moment for fans who yearned to stream these exclusive tunes.
The pop visionary herself admitted that the digital release wasn't initially in her plans. On Instagram, Charli explained her original intent: "i made b sides for each of the songs released ahead of Music, Fashion, Film because it felt natural to pair each songs with a fitting counterpart, something that’s adjacent to the album but not entirely part of it." She noted that traditionally, b-sides often become fan favorites, and for this album, that proved true. Despite her initial reluctance, stating, "i felt adamant i wouldn’t put them on streaming because it sort of felt counter intuitive to the whole ethos of those songs, but i know you all really wanted them so i’ve begrudgingly put them on itunes lol. you can call me a hypocrite, i don’t mind love you all and i hope you enjoy these special songs in ur ears."
This release follows the critically acclaimed debut of 'Music, Fashion, Film' on Friday, her seventh studio album. Charli recently discussed her artistic approach in a Rolling Stone cover story, reflecting on her method of following up massive successes like 'Brat'. She revealed, "All of my albums work in opposites. They repel against each other, and that’s the connective tissue. I knew when I was making it that I was never going to make that record again. It’s not creatively rewarding for me to make the same thing twice."
Charli is also set to embark on a tour in support of 'Music, Fashion, Film', with appearances at major festivals such as Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Reading, and Leeds, bringing her fresh sound to stages globally.
