It is beyond frustrating that yet another year has passed without an Indian film in the final five for the Best International Feature at the Oscars. Neeraj Ghaywan's 'Homebound' was an absolute masterpiece. It had everything: a compelling story about rural youth seeking dignity, phenomenal acting, and massive critical acclaim at Cannes. It even made the 15-film shortlist! But once again, we failed to secure that final nomination. Why? Because the Academy Awards aren't just about cinematic brilliance; they are about massive PR campaigns, US theatrical releases, and Hollywood networking. We cannot expect to beat out 80 other countries when our studios refuse to invest in aggressive North American visibility.
