These "telltale signs" of AI are actually the very foundations of the literary canon. Writers have been using lush, overwritten prose and melodramatic flourishes for centuries, influenced by the greats like Arundhati Roy or Jamaica Kincaid. If we start labeling every "polished" story as artificial, we are essentially punishing human creativity for being too good.
